We were pleased to be able to complete the Hampsthwaite Mile on Wednesday 29th June, just before the heavy rain set in.
Moving Sports Day itself to Thursday 30th was a great success, as this was the only fully dry day that week.
Nursery held their sports activities at 11:15am in the morning, and we had a very enjoyable afternoon of sports with the rest of the school. Many parents were able to come along to join us.
We had some exciting new sports day activities this year, and parents helped with these activities / score-keeping etc - thank you to those who volunteered to help as the activities took place - this meant adults could help out whilst still moving round to see the full range of activities their child took part in.
We also held our Tennis Celebration and non-uniform day, on Thursday 7th July.
The changes of dates were unfortunate; the weather in summer 2016 proved particularly tricky. Thank you for your understanding - we were able to enjoy a lovely sports day in the end!

Congratulations to the Hampsthwaite Y3/4 tennis team, who won the first round and have now won the area finals of the inter-school tennis tournament.
Their play showed excellent skill and accuracy, along with good sportsmanship. Very well done! The team are now through to County Finals, which will be held in the next couple of weeks.

We have had a fantastic week in North Wales, doing all kinds of activities that you couldn't do anywhere else! We've been 1000m up a mountain, 500ft down a slate mine, inside a hydro-electric power station, tobogganing on the Great Orme, zip-lining through Betws-y-Coed forest, castle exploring and much more!
Have a look at the Gallery page to find out more about this year's Year 5/6 residential, and see photos of the things we've been doing.

The children (and staff!) have all dressed up in fantastic costumes for World Book Day! Well done everyone! There are all sorts of famous book characters and some lesser-known ones too. We have had a great day in school, sharing our favourite books and enjoying being in costume for the day.
Have a look at our World Book Day photos in the gallery...

Well done to our Year 6 CTA children, who organised a super range of activities for the whole school on Children in Need day. In readiness for the day, CTA had prepared a colouring competition, then on Children in Need day itself, challenges, puzzles, sporting activities and games were all planned and run by the CTA in the school hall. Children dressed up as superheroes and in Pudsey items, and the day ended with a special assembly where the CTA explained where the money raised would go, and announced the winners of the competitions.
We all had a super day, and in all £186 was raised.

Thank you to all who came along to share in our Harvest Service on Monday 5th October.
Our theme was 'Thankfulness', and children from all classes contributed thoughtful ideas in church. We had Reception singing, Y1 and Y2 presenting a drama of Moses crossing the Red Sea, then singing a song of thanks akin to the celebrations of God's people back in Deuteronomy; Y3 and Y4 presented words for 'thank you' in many different languages, and Y5 and Y6 shared thought-provoking poetry they have written about Harvest and Autumn.
We also shared the results of an undercover Worship Committee 'thank you' challenge I had given the children - we learned that they had each managed to say 'thank you' around 13 or 14 times in a day, and succeeded in receiving 15 or more thank yous the next day. Grace said 'thank you' the most, because she chose her birthday as the day she would do the challenge! And she achieved a massive 35 thank yous!
Rev Chrissy ended the service with her thoughts on the work and preparation that goes into Harvest, and how wonderful it is to show our gratitude for this through Harvest celebrations. She also talked about the plans God has for our lives as we grow up and work towards our futures - and the importance of being a thankful people for all the opportunities and support we have as we grow and develop.
It was a lovely occasion, with superb singing and a real air of celebration. Thank you again to all who were able to come and join in our worship.
I will publish the Y5/6 poetry and photos from the service in the next Hampsthwaite Update newsletter.
