HAMPSTHWAITE CURRICULUM INTENT
Education at Hampsthwaite is based on the National Curriculum. Learning is sequenced in a way that ensures progression and the development of key knowledge and skills – embedding these within the children’s long term memory. We strive to ensure that our children’s creativity, interests and talents are nurtured so that they will be able to ‘Enjoy, Achieve and Flourish’ during their time with us.
HAMPSTHWAITE PRIMARY SCHOOL - SCIENCE INTENT
At Hampsthwaite Primary School we believe that science should foster curiosity, enjoyment, skills and a growing understanding of science knowledge, through a creative and supportive approach in which pupils raise questions and investigate the world in which they live. By working together we can flourish and achieve.
Opportunities
Science enables children to develop investigational skills through relevant practical tasks. Through an enquiry-based and child-led approach children are encouraged to question their understanding; create hypotheses to test; make links to real-life applications of science and apply their mathematical skills when collecting and explaining results.
Investigations will consist of the 5 different types of practical work: observing over time; pattern-seeking; fair testing; researching; identifying and classifying; which allow children to engage in a variety of ways, working collaboratively to strengthen their knowledge and understanding. These experiences will enable them to make sense of the world and their place in it, building their confidence as individuals.
