2022-2023

Let's get PHYSICAL!

As well as having lots of opportunities to work on physical development in our classroom and garden environment, we also enjoy bespoke PE lessons once a week.

These sessions support us to develop physical skills such as; balancing, climbing, jumping, moving in different ways, throwing and catching and negotiating space safely. We also practise working as a team; which means trying our best and supporting others. We particularly enjoy our competitive games!

Lost in Space

This half term, we have been space explorers! We've learned about space from astronauts working on the International Space Station - we were fascinated to learn that water floats in droplets in the space station due to zero gravity! We loved the live feed from the ISS which looks out of a special window called the 'cupola' which always points towards Earth.

We have spent time creating our own space pictures using paint and loose parts.

To infinity, and beyond!

新年快乐!

(Happy New Year!)

The year 2023 marks the year of the rabbit in many Asian cultures across the world.

In Team Dragon, we learned about the story of the zodiac and reenacted this in our small world area. We made hongbao, or red evnvelopes, which are traditionally filled with money and given to the younger generations during the lunar new year. We acted out dragon dances in the school hall. And finally, we tried some Chinese food as well as learning the symbolic meaning behind some of these foods.

Don't chop up your noodles, as many people believe that long noodles mean you will live a long life!

Winter

This week, we have been observing signs of winter. We carefully used hammers to break the ice we discovered in the garden, we used brushes and paints to make coloured ice cubes for our arctic animals to play in.

We enjoyed listening to Winter by Antonio Vivaldi and we expressed our responses to the music through painting and dancing with scarves.

Christmas Fun in Team Dragon!

We've been reading texts such as The Jolly Christmas Postman, The Nativity Story and Stick Man to get us into festive spirits. These texts have all been supported by group activities and thoughtful provision to help us extend and deepen our understanding of this special time of year.

We finished the term with our own production of Wriggly Nativity which went down a storm!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Happy Diwali!

We have loved using our glitter tray this week!

We have used our own experiences of attending bonfires and firework displays to support our learning about Diwali, the festival of lights!

Pumpkin Soup

Our focus story for this week has been 'Pumpkin Soup' by Helen Cooper.

We have loved exploring pumpkins in a variety of ways; ordering by size, drawing and pattern the colours and patterns, making pumpkin potions and even making our own pumpkin soup which we ate out in the forest school area :)

We're Going on a Bear Hunt!

As part of our exploration of Michael Rosen's classic text 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt', we went on our very own bear hunt in the forest school area. We acted out the different scenes using our bodies and our voices. We found a real bear at the end! We definitely decided that we will not be going on a bear hunt again!
