ART - the ancient skill of Batik

Using inspiration from our Geography topic - Rivers and Oceans, we imagined our own water-themed art using Batik.

Steps to success:

1. We researched water-themed art and sketched our own ideas using different sketching techniques and patterns

2. We traced our designs onto cotton callico

3. Using HOT wax, we learnt how to use the traditional Tjanting tool to create a 'wax resist' in the form of our designs

4. Once the wax was dry, we mixed coloured dyes to create the effect we wanted

5. Each design was ironed between sheets of newspaper to absorb the melted wax

6. We created a beautiful water-themed display in our classroom!

Our River Work
Wet, Wet, Wet is our geography topic theme
We ‘splashed out’ on the field trip to North Yorkshire Moors and the River Esk
We interpreted the sounds of the river and with our geographical knowledge of rivers, created and composed a musical ‘journey of a river’ from its source to the mouth.
With tuned percussion instruments, we improvised the sounds and visualised our compositions - finally adding formal notation.
Pssst, look out for who fell in!

Spring Term Science - Testing Properties of Materials

Spring Term 2022

This term we are learning about water in our WET WET WET topic. We will be looking at the oceans, rivers and seas and also doing some art based on this topic. In our Science we are looking at materials: classifying and grouping; properties of materials; states of matter and reversible and irreversible changes. We are excited about starting our new writing blocks using The Write Stuff and hoping to inspire our creative writing.

Harvest Celebration Autumn 2021

We were delighted to celebrate our Harvest Festival in church for the first time in two years! Team Titan wrote their own reflections and prayers about Harvest and shared them with the rest of the school. The children brought food gifts which were placed on the altar, these will be distributed to the Harrogate Homeless Project.

Art Poses in the style of Keith Haring

Exciting art update -we have been looking at Keith Haring graffitt art and realising our own poses to the sounds of 80s disco music! Working in groups, we voted on the best pose to transfer to our life-size  sketches before cutting them out. Our next step will be to add  little figure drawings and symbols which we have been practising and refining in our art books.

Our Forest School learning was fab! We all had lots of fun outside collecting things, building shelters, using tools safely,  learning how to start our own fires and of course playing in the mud kitchen!

Autumn Term

It is so good to be back and in a pretty normal classroom and school situation! We are really looking forward to this new term in Team Titan. Our topic is 'CSI - Crime & Punishment' and we will be learning lots about these through the ages. Our Science topic is Animals including Humans and we will be starting by focusing on Humans. We are lucky to have Madeline working with us for the first few weeks so we will be enjoying the great outdoors and taking part in Forest School activities,
