The Write Stuff
We have recently started teaching ENGLISH using THE WRITE STUFF by Jane Considine. Our first book, 'The Incredible Book Eating Boy' by Oliver Jeffers, was a huge hit with Team Griffin. The main character, Henry Jones, left a leather bag with some clues and seemingly revisited our classroom, on the lookout for tasty, red Maths books!
We had a fortnight of Henry's adventures whilst we gathered amazing vocabulary and wrote fantastic sentences on the 'sentence stacking' side of our double page spread.
The photograph shows the class' favourite sentences, which combine to retell the same story, but in our own words. If you look carefully, you will also see some of the evidence we found, e.g. a fork in the bushes outside the open window that we believe was the way the leather bag got in to our classroom. Further evidence includes a medical report and books with bites taken out of them.
On Friday, our final day of studying this book, we witnessed gardeners removing the ivy, which was creeping through out window. They told us they know Henry and they know he has moved on to pastures new.
I wonder what adventures the next book will bring...
HAPPY NEW YEAR 2022
Wishing all Griffins a super year ahead!
Together, we will enjoy, achieve and flourish!
Best wishes,
Mrs Borchard and Mrs Hayfield
AUTUMN TERM 2021
AROUND THE WORLD
The children are divided up into 'continent groups' - each focussing on facts, statitistics, art, dance, music, landmarks, issues, languages, geographical features and animals native to countries within their continent.
All work will contribute to an exhibition and presentation to the parents on Wednesday 24th November 2021, starting at 2:30pm. The parents will hear from the children, then decide where, in the world, they would choose to visit based on the children's presentation.
The children are loving the dances from around the world - a medley of different dances, encouraging physical exercise, awareness of dance styles and responses to music.
Already, the children have explored Aboriginal art and created 3D clay models of African animals.
They have been researching using ipads and laptops and storing information useful for their speeches.
We do hope we will be able to invite the parents into school on 24th - the first time in a long time!
