  • A great start to the new school year

    Fri 13 Sep 2013
It was lovely to welcome everyone back to school, and to see all the smiling faces of the children. Already, all our class teams seem to have settled in well, and are excited and engaged with their learning for this term. It's great that the children are so keen  - I hear that some of them were even counting down the days until they could come back to school!
A special welcome to Ms Reynard, who has joined our staff team to teach our Team Unicorn class. Her class have been really looking forward to her coming, and are now delighted that she is here.
  • Fantabulous Roald Dahl Day

    Fri 13 Sep 2013
On 13th September (the date which was Roald Dahl's birthday) we had a great time exploring Dahl's books, learning about his approach to writing, and enjoying fun classroom activities linked to George's Marvellous Medicine, The BFG, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and more!
The children all enjoyed their activities - have a look in our September Hampsthwaite Update newsletter for more details!

  • End of year celebrations

    Fri 19 Jul 2013

During the last few weeks of term, we have had much to celebrate. Our Megtilda Production was a great hit, and Year 6 in particular were fantastic in their roles as teachers and children in Megtilda's school. With the characters and script created by the children, their parts really came alive as they brought their own ideas into each aspect of the performance. The other class's scenes arose from their own curriculum work, and were created with great enthusiasm and effort from the children too. Another highlight was the whole-school songs, which sounded wonderful on stage. Well done everyone - I am sure this will stick in the memory, especially of our Year 6 leavers.

The last week of term brought our Leavers' Service, and a special chance to say 'thank you' to Mrs Eaman, as she moves to her 'semi-retirement' and takes on a new role as an occasional supply teacher for us in September.

We also had some super school trips, and a great sports day. Have a look at our July 2013 newsletter for  more information, and do check our Gallery on this website for pictures of the things that we have been doing.

  • A fantastic Environment Week...

    Wed 19 Jun 2013
Well done to all the staff and children for a brilliant Environment Week 2013. We have all been very busy, learning about sustainability, eco-friendly houses, energy, green travel, solar power and recycling. We have also completed lots of great projects around the school grounds, decorating our stage area with large painted scenes and characters, working on our garden areas, and finishing building our recycled bottle greenhouse. We think our greenhouse looks superb, and we are really grateful to everyone who donated bottles towards our collection of several thousand that we needed to complete the project! Now we can really get growing!
  • Our bottle Greenhouse is here! And plenty of veg is growing in the garden...

    Tue 04 Jun 2013

After everyone's fantastic efforts to collect thousands of plastic bottles, our greenhouse is finally in place. When the floor is finished, and some children have helped construct the door panel next week, the greenhouse will be ready for use.
Have a look at our bottle greenhouse pictures in our Gallery here:

Meanwhile, out in the veg plots, there are potatoes, peas, beans, cabbages, sprouts, onions, leeks and lettuces all growing nicely. It's now down to the House Teams to look after the plants, and keep them weeded and watered, and growing until harvest. Some of the lettuces are already ready, and will form part of our Environment Lunch on Thursday next week.

  • Congratulations Y6 - you did it - SAT's week complete!

    Thu 16 May 2013
Well done to all our Y6 children for all their hard work this week tackling their SAT papers. They worked really hard and should be proud of the effort they put in - we certainly are!
  • Fairtrade Friday - Flapjack recipe to be revealed!

    Fri 10 May 2013
Fairtrade Flapjack recipe to be revealed!  After Golden Assembly on Friday 10th May, parents enjoyed a chance to taste Fairtrade tea and coffee, along with a delicious piece of Mrs Shields' Fairtrade apricot flapjack. Mrs Shields has kindly agreed to release her flapjack recipe, along with her secret tip for deliciously soft apricots! The recipe will be in next week's Hampsthwaite Update newsletter.
Thank you to everyone for supporting our Fairtrade Friday. £27.47 was raised for the Fairtrade Foundation charity, to support Fairtrade community projects.
  • CTA raises £180 for Comic Relief

    Fri 15 Mar 2013
We have all enjoyed a brilliant day of fun and excitement, thanks to our children on the CTA committee who organised inter-house activities, fund-raising, cake stall and jokes to entertain us all in assembly.
Dressing up as Superheroes was one option for the day, along with wearing own clothes and, of course, red noses. After a morning of inter-house fun and games, the CTA sold cakes they had made to raise money for the Comic Relief charity.
By the end of the day, the money was counted, comic performances were ready, and we all shared in an exciting assembly.
There was quite a stir of excitement when eating a banana transformed Mr Phoenix into Bananaman... and a parade of other Superheroes followed. After a round of jokes, and the awarding of Fairtrade bananas as well as golden stickers, the total money raised was announced - now a total of £180. Well done everyone for taking part in a great day of fun and fundraising!
  • A fantastic Fairtrade Fortnight

    Fri 08 Mar 2013
Well done and thank you to all staff, parents and children for their contribution to our Fairtrade activities. The children have learned a tremendous amount about world trade issues, justice and equality, through fairtrade activities integrated into their class learning, and through collective worship and other fairtrade events. From role play to debate, and singing to creating interactive ICT multimedia presentations, the children have really embraced the fairtrade concept.
One indicator of the strong support for the important issues around Fairtrade is the excellent support for our non-profit Fairtrade stall, with over £400 worth of Fairtrade products sold. Thank you to everyone who has worked so hard to support our Fairtrade activities, and well done also to the winners of our Fairtrade poster competition!
All this also means we are well on the way to becoming an official Fairtrade school - and we will certainly be continuing ongoing support for Fairtrade throughout the coming weeks, months and years ahead.
