Autumn 2023
This term we have lots of exciting learning planned and will be shortly celebrating Harvest with some special poetry performed in our year groups. Our topics for this term are Animals including Humans in Science and Black and British as our History topic. We have made a great start to the year already and have made our class charter to show how we will all create our learning environment in Team Titan
We put a chicken bone in vinegar and observed it every two days for a fortnight. It was originally hard and brittle but after 14 days it was flexible and bendy. This was because the vinegar (which is an acid) reacted with the bone to strip the calcium.
CHILDREN IN NEED DAY
The CTA (a group of our Y6s pictured below) organised a fantastic morning of activities for the whole school in the hall, a competition to design a new bow or bandana for Pudsey and Blush and did an after school cake bake all to raise money for this worthwhile cause. We were very proud to raise over £150!
Spring Term 2024
This term might be a short one but there is lots going on! World Book Day, Comic Relief and Sporting tournaments to name but a few. Our new topics are Materials in Science and The Sikh Empire in History. Keep checking back to see what we are up to.
Our CTA have been busy again today helping to fundraise for this very worthy cause. We have done scavenger hunts in classes, quizzes and a joke competition as well as running a cake bake after school.
As part of our materials topic we have been looking at Reversible and Irreversible changes. Today's experiment was observing a chemical reaction between vinegar and soda bicarbonate. Look at our balloons!
What better way to end the Spring Term than with a sporting competition? Our Y6 Dodgeball team travelled to York College today to face lots of other schools in the district Dodgeball competition. We had a fantastic day, played several matches and finished a very respectable 4th in our group of schools.
As we start the final term of the year there are many events on the calendar. From SATS to residentials, bikeability and transition not to mention our exciting Y6 production. There are lots of things to look forward to - don't forget to check back and see what we have been up to. Our new topics in Science are Forces and Evolution and we will be looking at Independent Fieldwork in Geography and Unheard Histories in our History lessons.
Science - Exploring Forces
As part of our Forces topic today we were looking at Upthrust. We did a group challenge today exploring buoyancy and floating and we had to change a ball of Playdoh to make it float. We then tested our 'boats' to see if they could float and how much they could carry. See our investigating below.
We are so excited to finally finish our SATS! What better way to celebrate than starting Forest School?!
Week 1 was a lot of fun - we chose our own activities - take a look below at what we got up to.
Week 2 of Forest Schools
This week we had the waterproof den challenge - could we stay dry? We also had a hammering art activity using petals to make print pictures. Our fire activity this week was to build a fire so we could cook noodles for a tasty snack. At the end we all joined in a big game of Camouflage
Week 3 of Forest Schools
This week was a pinecone game challenge. We had to build a structure that would hold our buckets then try to throw pinecones in to score points. We also did a bit of crafting.
