SPORTS DAY
We were so lucky to have glorious weather for our annual sports day.
Team Griffin had a fabulous day - earning lots of house points for their team.
The obstacle course was a great hit - balancing and going through hoops.
The hockey slalom gave the children the chance to show off their fantastic hockey dribbling skills.
The 'Car Wash' was great fun - squeezing sponges of water into a bucket.
The javelin throw amazed Mrs Coghlan with the skillful throws.
The races - 'egg and spoon' and relay were great fun too.
Well done to Nidderdale/YELLOW team for their overall win!
TRIP TO RIPON CATHEDRAL
What a super trip to Ripon today!
We followed clues down the oldest street, Allhallowgate, then crossed over and walked the length of Priest Lane.
Following our maps, we reached the River Skell and found an unusual way to cross the river. Collecting more letters along the journey, we found a few in Duck Park, where we enjoyed a play.
Inside Ripon Cathedral, we explored the question,'What sort of world did Jesus want?' and studied stained-glass windows identifying the stories of 'The Good Samaritan' and 'The Calming of the Storm'.
We linked our recent Art learning to real life art in the Cathedral - sculpture and colour. We had time to sketch some of the designed textiles used in the Milennium cushions and reflect on recent DT work linked to the architecture and structure of buildings.
At all times, we practised our school values and British Values, which was commented on by our bus driver, Mr Gale, members of the public, the Cathedral volunteers and Canon Matthew.
Izzy: "The trip kept us going for six hours - exploring lots of activities and new facts about Ripon and its Cathedral."
Caitlin: "Inside the Cathedral made me feel special because it is such a huge building of worship."
Alfie: "It made me feel amazed about how big and grand it is and how much space is given to God."
Taryn: "It made me feel grateful from God making the world."

MARCH 2024
ASSESSMENTS
We all know that assessments help us to show our knowledge and understanding as well as showing the teachers what we need to re-visit. Mrs Hudson has been impressed with the work she has marked so far! :)
EXTRA-CURRICULAR
We seem to have so many wonderful things happening outside of the usual school timetable!
* Bugsy Business - Over 30 of the KS2 are rehearsing for two concerts - one with DANCEABILITY (20th March) and one at the ROYAL HALL in April.
* Royal Academy Art Competition - a great opportunity to submit original artwork by 15th March.
* Girls' Football Match - Friday 8th March.
February 2024
What a speedy few weeks that we called February!
Parent Consultations - It was super to meet so many parents! These meetings give a chance for us to share the progress, attitude to learning and friendship situation of your children; and gives you a chance to ask us anything too!
CLASS SHARE - Visiting Parents and Grandparents
Our 'Class Share' was fabulous - parents chose from seven activities and were taught by the children themselves before they presented their work to the rest of the group. We had:
* Ukulele - learning chords C, F and G
* History - a lesson on Ancient Civilisations
* Maths - fractions of pizzas and an online Multiplication Check to find the CHAMPION
* Creative Writing - learning about the Writing Rainbow lenses
* Science - organising animals using a classification key
* Art - sculpture using clay and wire
* Computing - coding
CURRICULUM HIGHLIGHTS
DT - we have been looking at the feature of castles and enjoying team building of paper castles as a practice for our DT project.
MATHS - learning about fractions and continuing our weekly calculations and times tables
ENGLISH - Mrs Hudson has been amazed by our creative poetry, using the recipe poem and 'The Magic Box' as inspiration.
January 2024
SCIENCE - We have had fun learning about the digestive system; we even re-enacted the process of food passing through the body! Real food was chomped by the model teeth and passed through a tube acting as the oesophagus. From here it was churned up in the plastic zip-lock bag stomach. It was then squeezed through the leg of a pair of tights, mimicking the intestines and finally into the paper cup anus. I don't think the children will forget this in a hurry!
MUSIC - Mrs Hudson is very impressed with our ukulele skills - most of us can now play the chords C and F; and some of us can do G7 too. We are playing along to 'Rockin' All Over the World' by Status Quo.
HISTORY - 'What 3 words' - we are having a whistle-stop tour of seven ancient civilisations and choosing three words to help us remember about each of them.
Do you know which order these civilisations were present?
Ancient Sumer, Ancient Egypt, Roman Empire, Ancient Greeks, Persian Empire, Indus Valley and Shang Dynasty.

Welcome Back Message from Mrs Hudson (Autumn 2023)
We hope you've all had a super holiday with your family and friends - creating memories to last forever!
As we start back in Autumn 2023, Mrs Hutchinson will be teaching Team Griffin until Mrs Hudson fully recovers from her hip replacement operation in September.
Mrs Hayfield, Mrs Jones and Mrs Nunns-Tidman will continue to support during the week and we also welcome Miss Burnham as a TA to the class too.
We look forward to welcoming the new Year 3s and are delighted that so many familiar faces will remain in Team Griffin for Year 4. It will be wonderful to build on existing knowledge and skills whilst developing further confidence and independence.
Watch this space for events throughout the year!
Best Wishes,
Mrs Hudson
Parent Share Assembly - 'Around the World' Geography Topic
We had a lot of fun sharing our work with parents in November 2023. We entertained parents by dancing a European waltz, doing a north American line-dance and the New Zealand Hakka. We enjoyed sharing our continents posters and singing the continents song.
After our performance in the hall, parents were invited to the classroom to look at our posters on countries in the world and to sample examples of food from around the world. Baba Ghanoush didn't look very nice but was tasty! It seems the Brazilian coconut lemonade with ice from the Antarctica group proved to very popular!
