2020-2021

We started the Autumn Term with an open mind, keen to allow the children to express their experiences of Lockdown and any concerns or anxieties they might have.  To support us in this time of reflection, we based our learning on the book, 'Here We Are' by Oliver Jeffers'.  This gave us the time and space to think, articulate and reflect through Poetry, Art, Writing, Reading and discussion...all based on the simple concept of 'being in the moment'.  The children flourished with this creative and gentle start to a term full of 'catch up learning' as well as new topics.

Our topic this term is 'Entente Cordiale - exploring Modern Europe', where we are studying the human and physical geography of Europe and its cities.

In the Spring Term, we will be going further afield in our 'Tomb Raiders' topic, learning all about the Egyptians before returning to Yorkshire, with a local history and geography topic, 'Up the Chimney, Down the Mine' in the Summer Term.

In Science, we have been learning all about Sound...to be followed by Light.

In Maths this term, our focus has been on Place Value, Number and Calculations across the four operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.  Might sound a bit dry?  No! The children can often be heard in a chorus of "we love Maths!" as they explore methods and challenge their problem solving and reasoning 😁

In English, we have tried our hand (very successfully) at Persuasive Writing and non-chronological report writing, linking into our European topic.  Our daily Guided Reading is based on the wonderful book, 'Rooftoppers' by Katherine Rundell and based in the rooftops of Paris, which we are loving!

Please enjoy some highlights from our learning!
